KUMAON, LET ME JUST STAY HERE

ABOVE: a beautiful morning in the Kumaon hills

The past few weeks here have been so wonderful! I've had back-to-back weekends filled with excitement. Two weeks ago, I found out about a 'french speaker's' meetup. Basically, there was an open invite for anyone who is learning/has learned french to come to a cafe and meet other similar folks. The catch-you must only speak in french! I went to this event by myself, knowing noone and ended the night with new friends. We had a group of 15 people of all different skill levels, and all different backgrounds. This ranged from french natives who had moved to delhi, to indians who taught french here. We had a great night filled with fun games and interesting conversation.

The following weekend, I made my way out of the city.. finally! I headed off for a little roadtrip with a couple friends- Vivaan (my co-worker), Shiv (his good friend), and Agatha (my co-fellow and flatmate). We headed up to the Kumaon area to Vivaan's family 'farmhouse'. The place was AMAZING! The house had a beautiful garden with herbs and plants and lots of apple trees (yes we just walked outside and picked apples from the trees when we were hungry) The actual house was designed (inside and out) by Vivaan's dad and was really lovely. The house was also at the top of a hill, where you could catch a 360 view of the surrounding hills. Not too bad I say.

Beautiful house, in a beautiful area AND we were fortunate to have beautiful weather! I would say this was one of my favorite places I've been to as of yet... in the world. Maybe this was because I've been busy and cooped up in Delhi that this trip was extremely refreshing. I spent all day just watching the clouds go by and the lights flicker in other hillside towns. Needless to say, I weekend trip here seemed too short. and returning to work after that was tough! Thankfully, it's just an 8hr drive from delhi, so I will be back again soon.
