A BIRTHDAY FOR THE BOOKS

ABOVE: a pixellated screen grab of my american birthday cake

The weekend after our trip to Agra was my birthday. This was my second time celebrating my day in India. Only this time I wasn't in the south with my family. I was in my new home, Delhi. The weekend before my birthday I got the best surprise from my family. They called me up to video chat because friends of ours were visiting, and all of a sudden they showed me a birthday cake! It was all lit up with 'happy birthday anu. we miss you' written across it. Everyone sang happy birthday to me and wished me. It was such a sweet moment and really made me miss my family. I mean, how awesome is that!?

On saturday, my actual birthday, I had planned a full day. I wanted to cook a nice big meal for my friends and enjoy my favorite dishes with some of my favorite people in Delhi. In order to make these dishes, I had to go to my aunt's place (40min. away) and use her oven since I don't have an oven at my house. I spent half of the day hunting for ingredients and the other half cooking dinner. The menu for the evening: veggie enchiladas, homemade corn tortilla chips, salsa, guacamole, spanish rice, and mini mexican spice chocolate cakes for dessert! I shared one of the cakes with my relatives at my aunt's place just when it came out of the oven. Finally, I wound up finishing everything at 7:30pm, booked a cab and headed home for dinner.

When I reached home, A friend of mine had already gotten to my house and was chatting with my flatmates. We all hung out for a few hours, had dinner, and opened presents. One of my friends brought over macaroons from a french bakery she was raving about. Needless to say, my night was made. Great company, good food, and macaroons (yes, they are a separate category from good food!)
