GOOD IN THE HOOD

I haven't written since coming back from the hills and I have to apologize for that! Since returning from that lovely trip, I've been totally consumed by office work. Right now, there are some really exciting things happening at the office, things I will share with you soon! I've been working on launching a new website for us, which has been a really fun process. We are working with a developer in Pune to set up our new site and I have been doing all the front end design. In addition to the design and layout of the site, I've been working on the graphics as well. Mind you this new website is no tiny project, so it's taken up a lot of my time at the office and in the evening.

Otherwise, life has been going well here. After being here for two months now, I finally decided to venture into the neighborhood temple just behind my house. Before work last thursday, I popped in to see how the place was. It was really nice, pretty quiet with a few neighborhood aunties doing some rituals.

My understanding of hindi has improved quite a bit and with the few words I've picked up, I'm able to have conversations with both of my didi's (our cleaner and cook). Every morning I talk away with our cleaner, who is a very sweet lady. She often says things like, "well, now you're my other child...". It's pretty comforting to hear that.

Today I'll be heading with my roomie Agatha to the state of West Bengal for a wedding. We are heading to a town called Behrampur, which is just north of Calcutta. Our coworker Ananya has extended the invitation of her cousin's wedding to us! I'm really excited for this trip, I have never been to this area of India and I know that the wedding functions will be quite different from the South Indian weddings I'm used to. Also, this region is known for their sweets... and you know how much I love my sugary treats! :)

We'll be heading out on a train this afternoon and we'll reach tomorrow afternoon. The journey should be really interesting and fun. Especially for Agatha, who will be experiencing the Indian trains for the first time!

One Response so far.

Beautiful picture Anu. I hope you post some pictures of your trip on the train—and of course the wedding. Sounds like you are being Anu—busy, social and happy! Miss you, J
