WHAT A MORNING

ABOVE: riding in a pedal rikshaw

It's been two weeks now that I've been in India and I've experienced one complete work week. By now, I've got my daily routine down. Let me paint you a picture of my day... I wake up by 7 every morning, typically being woken up to the sound of the doorbell by my cook (yes, we have a cook at the flat). The cook wakes me up with some chai and biscuits and then proceeds to prepare breakfast, after which I head off to work. If I'm lucky, I carpool with my co-workers (who all live nearby). If not, I catch the metro, which is very easy and convenient. When I take the metro, I opt to walk to the station which is a 30 minute walk, but hey, I need to get my exercise somehow! The metro takes me to the suburb where I work, it's about 40 minutes followed by a 15 minute walk to my office. I enjoy my morning routine and I love the people watching on the metro!

Today, though, my daily routine was a little shaken up. For whatever reason, the metro had some issues. I got to the station and waited for 20 minutes before the metro came (typically it comes by every 5 minutes or less). Once I got on the metro, it proceeded to rest excessively at each stop. All in all adding another 40 minutes to my journey! In my rush to get to the office, I opted for a pedal rikshaw once I reached my stop. I can't complain too much though, the weather was beautiful (cloudy, breezy, and in the 80s. WOHOO!) and the 15 minute rikshaw ride made up for the metro craziness. Of course, once I got to the office, I was assured that this would not be my last run-in with a delayed metro!
