YUP, DADS ARE GREAT
ABOVE: circa 1988, urbana-champagne IL, father daughter time (do I look like him or what?!)
This past weekend, my facebook feed was filled with father's day wishes basically claiming that everyone has 'the best dad ever'. I was happy to see so much father love, and of course I thought about the many reasons why my dad is indeed the best dad ever ;-) I hope I don't bore any of you on this one..
The photo above is one of the earliest photos from the start of our american life. At that moment, my dad had left India and was a busy grad student- working, studying, and supporting his family of four. Since then, he has made many decisions that have lead me to live the great life that I do. Though we lived in the states, far from our family in India, he made sure that we stayed in touch and visited as often as possible. When we did visit, we were sure to see EVERYONE. If there's one thing my dad has always been good at, it's at staying in touch with people near and far. For these reasons, I've grown up with two homes- one in India, one in the US.
Fast forward to now... when I told my dad about this fellowship in Delhi, he expressed so much excitement for me. And as soon as my trip was confirmed, he had already called his Delhi connections (friends and family) to make sure I had some people to fall back on. I arrived and was welcomed by his cousin, and the following weekend was taken around town by his college buddy. In between all of this he has given me his own recommendations of what to do and where to go in Delhi.
While this city is quite foreign to me, I feel so comforted by all the people who have welcomed me. Really much of this comes from the support I've had from my dad (since day one). He genuinely wants me to live a great life filled with adventure, learning, and excitement. and he will do anything he can to see all those things happen for me. Lucky me, my dad is just great.
...Of course I have a great mom and brother too, but this one is a father's day post!
